Position an oven rack 6 inches from the broiler and preheat the broiler to high. Arrange the tomatillos (cut-side down), poblano halves (skin-side up), jalapeño halves (skin-side up), and onion quarters on a rimmed baking sheet. Broil for 8–10 minutes, until the tomatillo skins are blistered and charred in spots and the pepper skins are blackened and bubbling.
Transfer the broiled vegetables to a blender. Add the chipotle pepper, adobo sauce, cumin, smoked paprika, and oregano. Blend on high until smooth, about 30 seconds. Set the verde sauce aside.
