Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease the sides of a 9-inch round cake pan and line the bottom with a round of parchment paper.
Melt 4 tbsp butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add the brown sugar and sea salt and stir until the sugar is fully dissolved and the mixture is smooth and bubbling, about 2 minutes. Pour the caramel evenly into the prepared cake pan.
