This vibrant, jewel-toned spritzer is the kind of drink that makes people stop mid-sip and ask what's in it. A homemade berry syrup โ built from mixed berries, honey, turmeric, cinnamon, and a pinch of black pepper โ gets strained until silky smooth, then layered over muddled fresh basil and sparkling water for something that feels genuinely special. The turmeric and cinnamon add a warm, slightly exotic depth that plays beautifully against the bright tartness of the berries and lemon juice. Every single ingredient here is naturally free from tree nuts of any kind, including chestnuts, so there's no label-scanning or cross-contact stress to worry about. Making the syrup from scratch means you control exactly what goes in, which is a real advantage when store-bought flavored drinks and syrups can be surprisingly unpredictable. Muddling the basil right in the glass releases its herby, floral oils and takes the whole thing from "fancy lemonade" to something you'd pay good money for at a rooftop bar. Serve it immediately while the bubbles are lively and the ice is still crisp.

Combine the berries, water, honey, turmeric, cinnamon, and black pepper in a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir to dissolve the honey, then cook, stirring occasionally and lightly pressing the berries against the pan, until the berries have broken down and the syrup is deep red-purple and slightly thickened, about 8โ10 minutes.
Remove from heat and stir in the lemon juice. Pour the syrup through a fine-mesh strainer into a heatproof pitcher or measuring cup, pressing the solids to extract as much liquid as possible. Discard the solids. Let the syrup cool to room temperature, about 20 minutes, or speed it up by setting the pitcher in a bowl of ice water.
