This drink is the definition of summer in a glass — fruity, herbal, and just sweet enough to feel like a treat without going overboard. Fresh strawberries are simmered down with maple syrup until they release a gorgeous deep-pink juice, then basil leaves are steeped right into that warm syrup for a floral, garden-fresh finish. The whole thing comes together with brewed black tea and cold water, making it a refreshing pitcher drink that's as beautiful as it is easy. Soy hides in a surprising number of flavored syrups and bottled teas, so making your own from scratch means you know exactly what's in every sip. Maple syrup steps in as the sweetener here, keeping things completely clean and naturally derived. Serve it over a big pile of ice with a sprig of basil on top and it looks like something straight off a café menu — no barista required.

Bring 4 cups of water to a boil in a medium saucepan over high heat. Remove from the heat, add the tea bags, and steep for 5 minutes. Remove and discard the tea bags, then set the brewed tea aside to cool slightly.
While the tea steeps, combine the halved strawberries, maple syrup, and 1/2 cup water in the same saucepan (or a second small saucepan) over medium heat. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the strawberries have softened and released their juices and the liquid is a deep pink, about 8 minutes.
