This drink is the definition of summer in a glass ā bright, floral, and just sweet enough to feel like a treat without going overboard. Fresh strawberries are simmered down with maple syrup until they release a gorgeous deep-pink juice, then basil leaves are steeped right into that warm syrup for an herby, aromatic finish you won't find in any bottled version. The whole thing comes together with brewed black tea and cold water, making it refreshing and grounded at the same time. Every single ingredient here is naturally free of coconut in any form ā no coconut sugar, no coconut water, no hidden oils ā so you can sip without second-guessing the label. Straining the syrup gives the final drink a beautifully clear, jewel-toned color that looks stunning poured over ice with a few strawberry slices on top. It's the kind of pitcher drink that disappears fast at a backyard gathering, and the good news is it's easy enough to make a second batch.

Bring 4 cups of water to a boil in a medium saucepan over high heat. Remove from the heat, add the tea bags, and steep for 5 minutes. Remove and discard the tea bags, then set the brewed tea aside to cool slightly.
While the tea steeps, combine the halved strawberries, maple syrup, and 1/2 cup water in the same saucepan (or a second small saucepan) over medium heat. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the strawberries have softened and released their juices and the liquid is a deep pink, about 8 minutes.
