Few drinks hit the way a tall glass of fruity, citrus-bright iced tea does on a warm afternoon, and this one earns its place at the top of the list. Steeped black tea forms a bold, smooth base, while a homemade raspberry syrup made from fresh berries and maple syrup adds a gorgeous deep-red color and natural sweetness. A generous squeeze of real lemon juice ties everything together with just the right amount of tang. Because every ingredient here is straightforward and whole — no flour blends, no specialty powders, no packaged shortcuts — there's zero concern about hidden lupin sneaking in through processed additives or thickeners, which can be a real headache with store-bought flavored drinks and syrups. The raspberry syrup comes together in just a few minutes on the stovetop, and straining it leaves you with a silky, jewel-toned liquid that looks almost too pretty to pour. Served over ice with lemon slices and a sprig of fresh mint, this is the kind of drink that makes people ask if you bought it somewhere fancy.

Bring 4 cups of water to a boil in a medium saucepan over high heat. Remove from the heat, add the tea bags, and steep for 5 minutes. Remove and discard the tea bags, then let the tea cool to room temperature, about 20 minutes.
While the tea steeps, combine the raspberries, 1/2 cup water, and maple syrup in the same saucepan (or a small one) over medium heat. Cook, stirring occasionally and pressing the raspberries gently with the back of a spoon, until the berries have broken down completely and the liquid is deep red, about 5–6 minutes.
