Bright, fruity, and completely refreshing, this sparkling drink is built from ingredients you can feel genuinely good about. Many store-bought sodas, flavored waters, and even some fruit drinks sneak in preservatives that people avoiding nitrates and nitrites have to watch out for — but every single component here is clean and straightforward. Fresh raspberries are simmered down with maple syrup and water into a gorgeous ruby-red syrup, then strained until silky smooth and paired with real squeezed lemon juice. The result is a tart-sweet base that mingles beautifully with chilled sparkling water for a drink that tastes far more special than the effort involved. A handful of ice, a sprig of mint, and a lemon slice on the rim and you've got something that looks like it came from a fancy café. It's the kind of homemade cooler that makes you wonder why you ever reached for a can in the first place.

Combine the raspberries, maple syrup, and water in a small saucepan over medium heat. Cook, stirring occasionally and pressing the raspberries against the side of the pan with a spoon, until the berries have completely broken down and the syrup is slightly thickened, about 6–8 minutes.
Pour the raspberry mixture through a fine-mesh strainer set over a bowl or measuring cup, pressing firmly on the solids with the back of a spoon to extract as much liquid as possible. Discard the solids. Let the syrup cool to room temperature, then refrigerate until cold, at least 30 minutes.
