Bright, tangy, and beautifully pink, this sparkling drink is the kind of thing that makes a regular afternoon feel like a little occasion. A homemade raspberry syrup — cooked down with maple syrup and water until thick and deeply fruity — forms the backbone of the whole drink, so you know exactly what's going into your glass. Fresh lemon juice adds a zippy contrast, and chilled sparkling water brings the fizz without any of the mystery ingredients that come with store-bought flavored sodas or drink mixes. Because the sweetness comes entirely from maple syrup and the natural sugars in the raspberries, there's no added salt hiding anywhere in this recipe. Straining the cooked berries gives the syrup a smooth, jewel-toned finish that looks stunning in a pitcher with lemon slices and a few sprigs of fresh mint. It's refreshing, crowd-pleasing, and genuinely easy to pull off — the kind of drink you'll want to keep in your fridge all summer long.

Combine the raspberries, maple syrup, and water in a small saucepan over medium heat. Cook, stirring occasionally and pressing the raspberries against the side of the pan with a spoon, until the berries have completely broken down and the syrup is slightly thickened, about 6–8 minutes.
Pour the raspberry mixture through a fine-mesh strainer set over a bowl or measuring cup, pressing firmly on the solids with the back of a spoon to extract as much liquid as possible. Discard the solids. Let the syrup cool to room temperature, then refrigerate until cold, at least 30 minutes.
