Combine the wild rice, chicken broth, and 1/4 tsp salt in a medium saucepan and bring to a boil over high heat. Reduce the heat to low, cover, and cook until the rice is tender and the grains have begun to split open, 45–50 minutes. Remove from heat and let stand, covered, for 5 minutes, then fluff with a fork.
While the rice cooks, make the pesto: combine the basil, 1/2 cup raw walnuts, garlic, lemon juice, 1/4 tsp salt, and 1/4 tsp black pepper in a food processor. Pulse until coarsely chopped, about 8–10 pulses. With the machine running, stream in the 1/3 cup olive oil until the pesto is smooth but still has some texture. Taste and adjust seasoning.
