Bright, jammy, and bursting with real fruit flavor, this berry compote is the kind of thing you'll want to spoon over everything — yogurt, pancakes, oatmeal, ice cream, or a thick slice of toast. It comes together in a single saucepan with nothing but berries, honey, lemon, and a couple of warm spices, which means there's zero need for the refined oils or emulsifiers that sneak into so many store-bought fruit sauces and preserves. Ceylon cinnamon and fresh ginger give it a gentle warmth that makes the whole thing taste a little more special than your average fruit topping. The lemon juice and zest brighten everything up and keep the sweetness from going flat. If you like a thicker, glossier texture, the optional arrowroot slurry does the job cleanly without changing the flavor or introducing anything processed. This is genuinely one of those recipes where the simplicity is the whole point — just good ingredients doing exactly what they're supposed to do.

Combine the berries, honey, lemon juice, lemon zest, Ceylon cinnamon, and ginger in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Stir to coat the berries, then cook, stirring occasionally, until the berries begin to release their juices and the mixture comes to a gentle simmer, about 4–5 minutes.
Reduce the heat to medium-low and continue to cook, stirring occasionally and pressing some of the berries lightly against the side of the pan, until the compote has thickened slightly and the fruit is very soft and jammy, about 8–10 minutes. The sauce should coat the back of a spoon.
