Bright, jammy, and deeply fruity, this berry compote comes together in a single saucepan with just a handful of wholesome ingredients. Blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, or blackberries — or a mix of all four — simmer down with honey, fresh lemon juice, lemon zest, Ceylon cinnamon, and ginger into something that tastes far more special than the effort involved. The warm spices give it a gentle depth that makes it feel almost luxurious spooned over yogurt, pancakes, oatmeal, or ice cream. If you like a thicker, glossier sauce, the optional arrowroot starch slurry does the job beautifully without changing the clean, fruit-forward flavor. Every single ingredient here is straightforwardly plant-based and fungi-free, so there's no need to scrutinize labels or worry about unexpected additions sneaking in. It keeps well in a jar in the fridge, making it an easy make-ahead topping to reach for all week long.

Combine the berries, honey, lemon juice, lemon zest, Ceylon cinnamon, and ginger in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Stir to coat the berries, then cook, stirring occasionally, until the berries begin to release their juices and the mixture comes to a gentle simmer, about 4–5 minutes.
Reduce the heat to medium-low and continue to cook, stirring occasionally and pressing some of the berries lightly against the side of the pan, until the compote has thickened slightly and the fruit is very soft and jammy, about 8–10 minutes. The sauce should coat the back of a spoon.
