Bright, jammy, and bursting with fruit flavor, this berry compote is the kind of sauce that makes everything it touches taste more special. Blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, or blackberries all work beautifully here — fresh or frozen — so you can pull this together any time of year. A hit of lemon juice and zest keeps the sweetness lively, while Ceylon cinnamon and ground ginger add a warm, subtly spiced depth that sets this apart from a basic fruit sauce. Everything simmers down into a glossy, spoonable topping that coats the back of a spoon in the most satisfying way. If you want an even thicker consistency, the optional arrowroot slurry takes it from saucy to luxuriously jammy in just a minute of stirring. Since every ingredient here is naturally free of dairy, there's no swapping or substituting required — just real fruit and pantry staples doing exactly what they should. Spoon it over pancakes, stir it into oatmeal, or serve it alongside a dessert and watch it disappear.

Combine the berries, honey, lemon juice, lemon zest, Ceylon cinnamon, and ginger in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Stir to coat the berries, then cook, stirring occasionally, until the berries begin to release their juices and the mixture comes to a gentle simmer, about 4–5 minutes.
Reduce the heat to medium-low and continue to cook, stirring occasionally and pressing some of the berries lightly against the side of the pan, until the compote has thickened slightly and the fruit is very soft and jammy, about 8–10 minutes. The sauce should coat the back of a spoon.
