Bright, jammy, and deeply fragrant, this mixed berry compote is the kind of simple recipe that makes everything it touches taste more special. Fresh or frozen blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, and blackberries cook down with honey, lemon, and a warm hit of Ceylon cinnamon and ginger until the whole pan turns glossy and irresistible. Grains like barley have a sneaky way of showing up in store-bought fruit spreads and sauces as thickeners or fillers, but every single ingredient here is naturally grain-free — no hidden additives, no label anxiety. If you want a thicker consistency, a quick arrowroot slurry does the job beautifully without introducing anything unwanted. The result is a sauce that coats the back of a spoon and tastes like it took far more effort than it actually did. Spoon it over yogurt, pancakes, oatmeal, or ice cream, or just eat it warm straight from the pan — no judgment here.

Combine the berries, honey, lemon juice, lemon zest, Ceylon cinnamon, and ginger in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Stir to coat the berries, then cook, stirring occasionally, until the berries begin to release their juices and the mixture comes to a gentle simmer, about 4–5 minutes.
Reduce the heat to medium-low and continue to cook, stirring occasionally and pressing some of the berries lightly against the side of the pan, until the compote has thickened slightly and the fruit is very soft and jammy, about 8–10 minutes. The sauce should coat the back of a spoon.
