Few cocktails are as refreshingly iconic as this Southern classic, and the good news is that every ingredient here is naturally free of yeast β no fermentation byproducts, no hidden additives, just clean, simple components you can feel confident about. The homemade simple syrup comes together in minutes on the stovetop, so you know exactly what's going into your glass without relying on any store-bought syrups that might carry unexpected ingredients. Fresh mint is the real star, muddled just enough to release its bright, cooling oils without turning bitter or grassy. Poured over a mound of crushed ice with good bourbon, the result is a drink that's bracingly cold, subtly sweet, and deeply aromatic. The frosted cup, the upright sprig of mint, the optional dusting of powdered sugar β it's as beautiful to look at as it is to sip. Whether you're hosting a crowd or just treating yourself on a warm afternoon, this is the kind of cocktail that feels like a genuine occasion.
