Few cocktails carry as much charm and ceremony as this Southern classic, and the good news is every ingredient here is completely free of seeds. The homemade simple syrup comes together in minutes on the stovetop, and making it from scratch means you know exactly what's in your glass β no store-bought syrups with mystery additives to second-guess. Fresh mint leaves are muddled gently, just enough to release their cool, fragrant oils without turning bitter, and that restraint is what separates a great julep from a mediocre one. Crushed ice is the real hero here, chilling the bourbon quickly and creating that gorgeous frosted exterior on the cup that signals the drink is ready. A dusting of powdered sugar on the mint garnish is optional but adds a subtle sweetness and a little visual drama that makes the whole presentation feel special. Whether you're hosting a Derby party or just want a refreshing warm-weather sipper, this one delivers elegance without any fuss.
