Few cocktails carry the same effortless elegance as a properly made mint julep, and this version delivers that cool, herbaceous magic with nothing but clean, simple ingredients. Fresh mint leaves are gently muddled β just enough to release their fragrance without turning bitter β then paired with a homemade simple syrup and good bourbon over a generous mound of crushed ice. The result is bracingly cold, lightly sweet, and deeply refreshing in a way that no bottled mixer can replicate. Making your own simple syrup takes only a few minutes on the stovetop, and the recipe yields enough to keep a batch in the fridge for up to two weeks, so your next round is even faster. Every ingredient here is naturally free of peanuts and peanut derivatives, so there's no need to scrutinize labels or worry about what's hiding in a pre-made cocktail mix. A dusting of powdered sugar over the mint garnish is a small optional touch that makes the whole presentation feel genuinely special. Whether you're hosting a crowd or just treating yourself on a warm afternoon, this is the kind of drink that makes the moment feel like an occasion.
