Fluffy, fragrant, and endlessly versatile, jasmine rice is one of those staples that belongs in every home cook's weekly rotation. The Instant Pot takes all the guesswork out of it — no more lifting the lid to check, no scorched bottom, no gummy clumps. A quick rinse under cold water before cooking is the real secret here, washing away excess starch so every grain comes out light and separate. With just rice, water, salt, and an optional pat of butter, there's nothing hiding in this recipe that could cause concern for anyone avoiding sesame or sesame-derived ingredients. The natural pressure release step is what really seals the deal, giving the grains time to finish steaming gently without turning mushy. Fluff it with a fork and it's ready to serve alongside stir-fries, curries, grilled proteins, or anything else that needs a clean, fragrant base.

Place the jasmine rice in a fine-mesh strainer and rinse under cold running water, stirring with your hand, until the water runs mostly clear, about 30–45 seconds. Drain well.
Add the rinsed rice, water, salt, and oil or butter (if using) to the Instant Pot insert. Stir briefly to combine.
