Steamed whole fish is one of those dishes that looks impossibly elegant but comes together with very little fuss, and this version delivers every bit of that bright, aromatic payoff. Fresh ginger and scallions are tucked into the cavity and layered beneath the fish, perfuming the flesh from every angle as it steams to tender, flaky perfection. The sauce is beautifully simple — coconut aminos warmed with julienned ginger, then finished with a pour of shimmering hot coconut oil that sizzles dramatically the moment it hits the plate. That sizzle isn't just theater; it blooms the aromatics and melds everything together in a way that tastes like it took hours. Because every ingredient here is naturally free of tree nuts and their derivatives, there's no label-scanning or substitution anxiety — just clean, confident cooking. A handful of fresh cilantro scattered over the top is optional, but it adds a lovely herbal lift if you have it on hand. This is the kind of weeknight centerpiece that earns serious compliments with almost no effort.

Fill a large wok or wide pot with 2 inches of water and set a steaming rack or heatproof plate stand inside. Bring the water to a rolling boil over high heat.
Pat the fish dry with paper towels and rub both sides and the cavity with the fine sea salt. Lay half the ginger matchsticks and half the scallion lengths inside the cavity and scatter the remaining ginger matchsticks and scallion lengths on a heatproof serving plate. Set the fish on top of the aromatics on the plate.
