A classic Negroni is already a beautifully balanced drink, and this herbal riff takes it somewhere even more aromatic and special. Fresh rosemary and thyme are gently bruised — not shredded — to coax out their fragrant oils before the gin, Campari, and sweet vermouth ever hit the glass, layering in a botanical depth that feels almost like a garden in a rocks glass. Managing a nickel allergy around cocktails can be trickier than it sounds, since many flavored spirits and pre-made mixers sneak in additives or botanical blends with unclear sourcing, but this recipe keeps things refreshingly transparent. Every ingredient here is straightforward and easy to vet, from the fresh herbs to the orange peel you twist yourself right over the glass. That expressed citrus oil on the surface adds a bright, fragrant finish that makes the whole drink feel polished without any extra fuss. Stir it long enough to get it properly cold, strain it over a big cube, and you've got a cocktail that looks and tastes like something from a serious bar program — made entirely on your own terms.

Place the rosemary sprig and thyme sprigs in the bottom of a mixing glass. Press them firmly with the back of a bar spoon 3–4 times — just enough to bruise the leaves and release their oils without shredding the herbs.
Add the gin, Campari, and sweet vermouth to the mixing glass, then fill with ice. Stir steadily for 30–40 seconds, until the outside of the glass feels well chilled and the liquid is cold throughout.
