The classic Negroni is already a beautifully balanced drink, and this herbal riff takes it somewhere even more interesting. Bruising fresh rosemary and thyme before stirring releases their aromatic oils into the gin, Campari, and sweet vermouth, adding a woodsy, garden-fresh dimension that feels both sophisticated and approachable. The technique is simple — a few firm presses with the back of a bar spoon is all it takes — and the payoff is a cocktail that smells incredible before you even take a sip. Expressing the orange peel over the glass at the end is a small step that makes a big difference, coating the surface of the drink with bright citrus oils that tie everything together. This is the kind of cocktail that impresses guests without requiring any special equipment beyond a mixing glass and a rocks glass. Pour it for a dinner party aperitivo or settle in with one on a quiet evening — either way, it delivers.

Place the rosemary sprig and thyme sprigs in the bottom of a mixing glass. Press them firmly with the back of a bar spoon 3–4 times — just enough to bruise the leaves and release their oils without shredding the herbs.
Add the gin, Campari, and sweet vermouth to the mixing glass, then fill with ice. Stir steadily for 30–40 seconds, until the outside of the glass feels well chilled and the liquid is cold throughout.
