This refreshing twist on a classic half-and-half drink layers fragrant black tea steeped with fresh mint and basil against bright, freshly squeezed lemonade — and the result is genuinely stunning. The herbs infuse directly into the hot tea, so every sip carries a subtle garden-fresh complexity that no bottled drink can touch. A quick homemade simple syrup ties everything together with just the right amount of sweetness, and you can dial it up or down to taste. Optional culinary lavender adds a floral note that makes this feel almost fancy enough for a dinner party, yet it comes together with nothing more than a saucepan and a pitcher. Everything here is naturally plant-based and completely free of any meat or poultry — just clean, whole ingredients doing all the heavy lifting. Serve it over a tall glass of ice with a sprig of mint and a lemon slice, and it looks as good as it tastes.

Bring 2 cups of the water to a boil in a medium saucepan. Remove from the heat, add the tea bags, mint leaves, basil leaves, and dried lavender (if using), and steep for 5 minutes.
Remove and discard the tea bags. Strain the tea through a fine-mesh strainer into a pitcher, pressing the herbs gently to extract their liquid, then discard the solids. Stir in the remaining 2 cups of cold water and let the tea cool to room temperature, about 20 minutes.
