This garden-fresh twist on a classic half-and-half drink is the kind of thing you'll want to sip on a warm afternoon with absolutely nowhere to be. Steeped black tea gets layered with fresh mint, basil, and optional lavender for a floral, herbaceous depth that makes the whole drink feel a little fancy without any real effort. The from-scratch lemonade — squeezed lemons, cold water, and a quick homemade simple syrup — keeps everything bright and balanced against that aromatic tea base. Every single ingredient here is naturally free of grains and grain-derived additives, so there's no label-scanning required and no hidden surprises lurking in a store-bought mix. Pouring the tea and lemonade over ice in equal parts gives you that gorgeous layered look before you stir it all together. Fresh mint sprigs and lemon slices on the rim make it feel like something you'd order at a nice restaurant, but it comes together right in your own kitchen.

Bring 2 cups of the water to a boil in a medium saucepan. Remove from the heat, add the tea bags, mint leaves, basil leaves, and dried lavender (if using), and steep for 5 minutes.
Remove and discard the tea bags. Strain the tea through a fine-mesh strainer into a pitcher, pressing the herbs gently to extract their liquid, then discard the solids. Stir in the remaining 2 cups of cold water and let the tea cool to room temperature, about 20 minutes.
