This drink is the ultimate warm-weather refresher — a garden-fresh twist on the classic half-and-half that swaps plain iced tea for a fragrant brew steeped with fresh mint, basil, and optional lavender. The herbal infusion gives the tea layer real depth and a floral, cooling quality that pairs beautifully with bright, freshly squeezed lemon juice. Everything here is made from scratch using whole, recognizable ingredients, so there's zero guesswork about what's actually in your glass. Lupin, which can quietly show up in flavored syrups, packaged drink mixes, and even some herbal blends, is simply never part of the picture when you're building a drink this way. The homemade simple syrup comes together in just a few minutes on the stovetop and ties the lemonade side together with a clean sweetness that lets the herbs shine. Poured over ice in tall glasses and garnished with a sprig of mint and a lemon slice, it looks like something you'd order at a nice café — but it's entirely yours to make at home.

Bring 2 cups of the water to a boil in a medium saucepan. Remove from the heat, add the tea bags, mint leaves, basil leaves, and dried lavender (if using), and steep for 5 minutes.
Remove and discard the tea bags. Strain the tea through a fine-mesh strainer into a pitcher, pressing the herbs gently to extract their liquid, then discard the solids. Stir in the remaining 2 cups of cold water and let the tea cool to room temperature, about 20 minutes.
