This is the kind of drink that makes a regular afternoon feel like a proper occasion. Black tea gets steeped together with fresh mint, fresh basil, and optional dried lavender, creating a deeply aromatic base that goes way beyond anything you'd pour from a bottle. The herbal infusion is then paired with bright, freshly squeezed lemon juice and a quick homemade simple syrup, so every sip hits that perfect balance of floral, citrusy, and just sweet enough. Everything here is made entirely from scratch using whole, straightforward ingredients — no packaged blends or mystery additives to second-guess. It's naturally free from tree nuts of any kind, so you can serve it confidently to a crowd without scanning labels or worrying about cross-contact. The lavender is optional, but if you have it on hand, it adds a gorgeous fragrance that takes the whole glass to another level. Serve it over plenty of ice with a sprig of mint and a lemon slice, and it looks as good as it tastes.

Bring 2 cups of the water to a boil in a medium saucepan. Remove from the heat, add the tea bags, mint leaves, basil leaves, and dried lavender (if using), and steep for 5 minutes.
Remove and discard the tea bags. Strain the tea through a fine-mesh strainer into a pitcher, pressing the herbs gently to extract their liquid, then discard the solids. Stir in the remaining 2 cups of cold water and let the tea cool to room temperature, about 20 minutes.
