This refreshing twist on a classic half-and-half drink layers fragrant black tea steeped with fresh mint and basil against bright, freshly squeezed lemonade — and the result is something genuinely special. The herbs infuse directly into the hot tea, so every sip carries a subtle garden-fresh complexity that you just can't get from a bottled version. A quick homemade simple syrup ties everything together with just the right amount of sweetness, and the optional lavender adds a floral note that makes it feel almost fancy. It's the kind of drink that looks impressive in a tall glass over ice but comes together with nothing more than a saucepan, a strainer, and a handful of fresh ingredients. Since everything here is plant-based and naturally sourced, there's zero guesswork about what's actually in your glass — no mystery additives, no unnecessary extras. Serve it at a backyard gathering or just pour yourself a tall one on a warm afternoon; either way, the mint sprigs and lemon slices on top make it feel like a treat worth savoring.

Bring 2 cups of the water to a boil in a medium saucepan. Remove from the heat, add the tea bags, mint leaves, basil leaves, and dried lavender (if using), and steep for 5 minutes.
Remove and discard the tea bags. Strain the tea through a fine-mesh strainer into a pitcher, pressing the herbs gently to extract their liquid, then discard the solids. Stir in the remaining 2 cups of cold water and let the tea cool to room temperature, about 20 minutes.
