Earthy rutabaga, golden-seared and tender, pairs with savory ground turkey in a skillet dish that's warming, a little funky from fresh ginger, and deeply satisfying any time of day. The double hit of fresh-grated and ground ginger gives it a lively, aromatic backbone, while turmeric adds a gorgeous golden hue and subtle depth. Coconut aminos and a splash of apple cider vinegar round everything out with a gentle savory-tangy finish that keeps each bite interesting. Many packaged sauces and seasoning blends sneak in unexpected additives, so building the flavor from scratch here ā with whole spices, real aromatics, and clean pantry staples ā means you know exactly what's going into the pan. Coconut oil does the heavy lifting for the sear, getting that rutabaga beautifully caramelized before the turkey ever hits the skillet. Finished with fresh scallions and optional parsley, it's a one-pan meal that looks and tastes like you put in way more effort than you actually did.

Heat 2 tbsp of the coconut oil in a large (12-inch) skillet over medium-high heat until shimmering. Add the diced rutabaga in a single layer and cook, undisturbed, for 5 minutes, until the undersides are golden brown. Stir and continue cooking for another 8ā10 minutes, stirring every 2ā3 minutes, until the rutabaga is tender when pierced with a fork and golden on most sides. Transfer to a plate and set aside.
Reduce the heat to medium and add the remaining 1 tbsp coconut oil to the same skillet. Add the onion and cook, stirring occasionally, until softened and translucent, about 5 minutes.
