Tart, icy, and bursting with real strawberry flavor, this blended drink is the kind of thing you'll want to make on repeat all summer long. It comes together with just a handful of whole ingredients — fresh berries, squeezed lemons, and a quick homemade simple syrup — so there's nothing processed or mysterious hiding in the mix. That matters more than people realize, because plenty of store-bought lemonades and flavored drink mixes sneak in additives or thickeners that can be a problem for anyone avoiding gluten. Here, every single ingredient is naturally free of it, no substitutions required. The simple syrup takes a little patience to chill, but the actual blending is done in under a minute, and the result is a gloriously smooth, slushy drink that tastes like summer in a glass. Finish it with a sprig of fresh mint and a lemon slice and it looks just as good as it tastes.

Combine the sugar and 1/3 cup water in a small saucepan over medium heat, stirring until the sugar is fully dissolved, about 2–3 minutes. Remove from heat and let the syrup cool to room temperature, then refrigerate until cold, at least 30 minutes.
Add the hulled strawberries, lemon juice, cold water, ice cubes, and all of the chilled simple syrup to a blender. Blend on high until completely smooth and slushy, about 45–60 seconds.
