Summer in a glass doesn't get much better than this — fresh-squeezed lemon juice, muddled strawberries and blueberries, and a homemade vanilla simple syrup that makes every sip feel a little special. The syrup is made by steeping a real vanilla bean in warm maple syrup and water, which gives the whole drink a floral, almost creamy depth that store-bought lemonade simply can't touch. Muddling the berries directly in the pitcher coaxes out their natural juice and color, so you get that gorgeous blush hue without any artificial dyes or flavoring. Every single ingredient here is naturally free from tree nuts, and there's no need to scan labels or worry about shared-facility warnings — just whole, recognizable produce and pantry staples. You can strain it smooth for a clean, elegant pour or leave the berry pulp in for a more rustic, textured drink; both versions are equally stunning over a big glass of ice. A few sprigs of fresh mint on top make it look like something you'd pay twelve dollars for at a rooftop bar. This is the kind of homemade drink that becomes a warm-weather ritual.

Combine the maple syrup, 1/2 cup water, vanilla bean seeds, and the scraped pod in a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir until the maple syrup is fully dissolved, about 2 minutes, then remove from the heat and let the syrup steep for 20 minutes.
Strain the syrup through a fine-mesh strainer into a small bowl or measuring cup, discarding the vanilla pod. Let the syrup cool to room temperature, about 10 minutes.
