This drink is the kind of thing you make once and immediately want to serve at every warm-weather gathering from that point forward. Fresh strawberries and blueberries get muddled right in the pitcher, releasing their juice and color into a base of real-squeezed lemon juice and a homemade vanilla simple syrup made with maple syrup and a whole split vanilla bean. That syrup is the secret weapon — steeped, strained, and cooled before it ever hits the lemonade, so every sip carries a subtle floral sweetness that store-bought mixes simply can't touch. Because everything here is built from scratch with whole fruit, fresh citrus, and pantry staples, there's no need to scan labels for hidden spice blends or flavoring agents that might sneak in unwanted ingredients. You can strain out the berry pulp for a jewel-clear pour or leave it in for something a little more rustic and textured — both versions are gorgeous over ice. A few sprigs of fresh mint on top make it look like something from a restaurant patio, but the whole process is genuinely straightforward.

Combine the maple syrup, 1/2 cup water, vanilla bean seeds, and the scraped pod in a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir until the maple syrup is fully dissolved, about 2 minutes, then remove from the heat and let the syrup steep for 20 minutes.
Strain the syrup through a fine-mesh strainer into a small bowl or measuring cup, discarding the vanilla pod. Let the syrup cool to room temperature, about 10 minutes.
