Bright, herby, and layered with citrus, this homemade lemonade is the kind of drink that makes you want to sit outside and do absolutely nothing productive. Fresh lemon juice and orange juice team up for a tangy, sun-ripened base, while a steeped mint simple syrup made with maple syrup adds a floral sweetness that store-bought lemonade just can't touch. The mint syrup comes together in minutes on the stovetop — you steep the leaves right in the warm syrup, then strain them out so you get all that fragrant flavor without any bits floating in your glass. Because every single ingredient here is a whole, recognizable food, there's zero guesswork about what's actually in your cup. It's naturally free of anything fishy or oceanic, which sounds obvious for lemonade but matters when you're navigating shared facilities or packaged drink mixes with murky ingredient lists. Serve it over a big pile of ice with a few citrus slices and a sprig of fresh mint, and it looks almost too pretty to drink — almost.

Combine the maple syrup and 1/2 cup water in a small saucepan over medium heat, stirring until the syrup is fully dissolved, about 2 minutes. Remove from heat.
Add the mint leaves to the warm syrup and press them gently with a muddler or the back of a wooden spoon until fragrant. Let the mint steep for 10 minutes, then strain out and discard the leaves.
