Bright, tangy, and impossibly refreshing, this citrus lemonade is the kind of drink that makes you feel like summer arrived early. Every ingredient here is whole and recognizable — fresh-squeezed lemon and orange juice, real mint leaves, and maple syrup standing in as a naturally sweet base instead of processed sugar syrups that often sneak in unwanted additives. That matters more than it sounds, because BHA and BHT are common preservatives found in many commercial beverages and flavored syrups, so making your own from scratch is the cleanest way to go. The mint simple syrup comes together in minutes on the stovetop, and steeping the leaves in warm syrup pulls out every bit of that cool, herbal fragrance before you strain it away. The result is a layered, complex lemonade that tastes far more sophisticated than the effort involved. Serve it over ice with a few citrus slices and extra mint, and it looks just as good as it tastes.

Combine the maple syrup and 1/2 cup water in a small saucepan over medium heat, stirring until the syrup is fully dissolved, about 2 minutes. Remove from heat.
Add the mint leaves to the warm syrup and press them gently with a muddler or the back of a wooden spoon until fragrant. Let the mint steep for 10 minutes, then strain out and discard the leaves.
