Bright, herby, and refreshingly tart, this lemonade is the kind of drink that makes you want to sit on a porch and do absolutely nothing productive. A homemade mint simple syrup made with maple syrup and fresh leaves gives it a natural sweetness that store-bought mixes simply can't match — and without a drop of artificial color in sight. So many bottled lemonades and powdered drink mixes sneak in synthetic dyes to achieve that sunny yellow hue, but here the gorgeous color comes entirely from real lemon and orange juice. The combination of fresh-squeezed lemon and orange juice adds a layered citrus flavor that's more complex and interesting than a standard lemonade. Steeping the mint in warm syrup before straining it out is a small step that makes a big difference, infusing every sip with a cool, fragrant finish. You can easily dial the tartness or sweetness up or down to your taste, making this as crowd-pleasing or as puckery as you like. It's the perfect pitcher drink for anyone who wants something vibrant and delicious without any ingredient they can't pronounce.

Combine the maple syrup and 1/2 cup water in a small saucepan over medium heat, stirring until the syrup is fully dissolved, about 2 minutes. Remove from heat.
Add the mint leaves to the warm syrup and press them gently with a muddler or the back of a wooden spoon until fragrant. Let the mint steep for 10 minutes, then strain out and discard the leaves.
