Deep purple and fragrant with warming spices, this elderberry tonic syrup is the kind of thing you'll want to keep stocked in the fridge all season long. Dried elderberries simmer low and slow with fresh ginger, turmeric, Ceylon cinnamon, and cloves until the liquid reduces into a richly colored, intensely flavored concentrate. The raw honey goes in off the heat so its natural properties stay intact — a small but meaningful detail that makes the whole thing feel intentional and craft-made. Store-bought immune-support syrups can be hit or miss with hidden additives and mystery ingredients, so making your own means you know exactly what's in every spoonful. The process is straightforward: simmer, mash, strain, sweeten, and refrigerate. It thickens beautifully as it chills and keeps well in a sealed jar, ready to stir into warm water, drizzle over yogurt, or take straight from the spoon. Every ingredient here is naturally free from tree nuts, so there's no label-reading stress — just a deeply satisfying, homemade syrup you'll be proud to have on hand.

Combine the dried elderberries, water, ginger, turmeric, Ceylon cinnamon stick, and cloves in a medium saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer, uncovered, for 40–45 minutes, until the liquid has reduced by roughly half and the berries are very soft and have released their deep purple color.
Remove the saucepan from the heat. Use a potato masher or the back of a wooden spoon to press the berries firmly against the side of the pan, extracting as much juice as possible.
