Deep purple and fragrant with warming spices, this elderberry tonic syrup is the kind of thing you'll want to keep stocked in your fridge all season long. Every ingredient here is whole and intentional ā dried elderberries, fresh ginger, Ceylon cinnamon, cloves, turmeric, and raw honey ā with absolutely no refined oils, emulsifiers, or processed fillers anywhere in sight. That matters more than you might think, since many commercial wellness syrups and immune-support products sneak in carrier oils or preservatives that have no business being there. The long simmer draws out the berries' deep color and concentrated flavor, while the spices add a gentle heat and earthiness that makes each spoonful feel genuinely nourishing. Waiting for the liquid to cool before adding the honey is a small but important step ā it protects the raw honey's natural enzymes and keeps everything as clean and unprocessed as possible. The finished syrup thickens beautifully in the fridge and works stirred into warm water, drizzled over yogurt, or taken straight by the spoonful. Once you've made a batch yourself, it's hard to go back to anything store-bought.

Combine the dried elderberries, water, ginger, turmeric, Ceylon cinnamon stick, and cloves in a medium saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer, uncovered, for 40ā45 minutes, until the liquid has reduced by roughly half and the berries are very soft and have released their deep purple color.
Remove the saucepan from the heat. Use a potato masher or the back of a wooden spoon to press the berries firmly against the side of the pan, extracting as much juice as possible.
