Bright, tangy, and flushed with the color of summer, this strawberry lemonade is the kind of drink that makes you want to sit on a porch and do absolutely nothing productive. The base starts with a quick homemade strawberry syrup โ fresh berries, sugar, and water simmered until the fruit softens and releases all that gorgeous juice โ which gets strained smooth before meeting a pitcher of real-squeezed lemon juice and cold water. Every single ingredient here is whole and unprocessed, so you never have to second-guess what's actually in your glass the way you might with a bottled or powdered drink mix. Preservatives and additives are simply not part of this equation, because nothing here needs them. The result is a naturally vibrant, sweet-tart lemonade that tastes like it came from a farmstand, not a factory. Serve it over plenty of ice with a few fresh strawberry slices floating on top, and it's as pretty as it is refreshing.

Combine the strawberries, 1/2 cup sugar, and 1/2 cup water in a small saucepan over medium heat. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the sugar dissolves and the strawberries soften and release their juices, about 5โ7 minutes.
Remove the pan from the heat and let the syrup cool for 5 minutes, then pour it through a fine-mesh strainer into a bowl or measuring cup, pressing the solids with the back of a spoon to extract as much liquid as possible. Discard the solids. Let the syrup cool to room temperature, about 20โ25 minutes.
