Chef's tip
Ground chicken is often leaner than ground beef and can dry out more quickly. When browning it, add a little oil if needed and keep the pan juices unless the recipe says to drain them. Cook just until it reaches 165°F (74°C).
1 medium yellow onion, finely diced
1 medium green bell pepper, finely diced
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
3 tbsp ketchup
1 tbsp worcestershire sauce
1 tbsp brown sugar
1 tsp yellow mustard
1 tsp apple cider vinegar
½ tsp smoked paprika
¼ tsp garlic powder
salt and pepper, to taste

For serving

4 hamburger buns

Instructions

1
Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a wooden spoon, until browned and no pink remains, about 6–8 minutes. Drain off all but about 1 tablespoon of fat.
2
Reduce the heat to medium. Add the onion and bell pepper to the skillet and cook, stirring occasionally, until softened and the onion is translucent, about 5 minutes.
