There is something deeply satisfying about a tall glass of peach iced tea made entirely from scratch, and this version delivers that sweet, fruity refreshment without any of the additives lurking in bottled or powdered drink mixes. Many store-bought teas and flavored beverages sneak in thickeners and stabilizers — carrageenan being one of the most common — so making your own is the cleanest way to enjoy a classic summer drink. The homemade peach syrup is the real star here: ripe peaches are simmered down with sugar and water, then strained into a silky, fragrant concentrate that gives the tea its gorgeous color and natural sweetness. Brewed black tea forms the backbone, and once everything is stirred together and chilled, the result is bright, lightly sweet, and incredibly refreshing. A handful of ice, a few fresh peach slices, and a sprig of mint turn it into something that looks just as good as it tastes. Every single ingredient is straightforward and easy to find, so you know exactly what's going into your glass.

Combine the chopped peaches, sugar, and 1/2 cup water in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the sugar dissolves and the peaches soften and begin to break down, about 8–10 minutes.
Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the peach mixture cool for 5 minutes, then press it through a fine-mesh strainer into a bowl or measuring cup, pressing the solids firmly with the back of a spoon to extract as much syrup as possible. Discard the solids.
