Sweet, fruity, and endlessly refreshing, this peach iced tea is the kind of drink that makes a hot afternoon feel like a genuine occasion. The real star is the homemade peach syrup — ripe peaches simmered down with sugar and water until they're soft and fragrant, then strained into a silky, golden liquid that tastes like summer in a glass. Because everything here is made from scratch with whole, simple ingredients, there's no need to scan labels for hidden spice blends or flavoring additives that can sneak capsaicin into otherwise innocent drinks. The brewed black tea gives it a gentle depth that balances the sweetness of the peach syrup beautifully. Served over ice with optional peach slices and fresh mint, it looks as good as it tastes. This is the kind of pitcher drink you'll want to keep stocked in the fridge all season long.

Combine the chopped peaches, sugar, and 1/2 cup water in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the sugar dissolves and the peaches soften and begin to break down, about 8–10 minutes.
Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the peach mixture cool for 5 minutes, then press it through a fine-mesh strainer into a bowl or measuring cup, pressing the solids firmly with the back of a spoon to extract as much syrup as possible. Discard the solids.
