Bright, tangy, and completely refreshing, this citrus mocktail is the kind of drink that makes any occasion feel a little more special — no alcohol required. Three kinds of fresh-squeezed juice come together with a lemon-zested simple syrup and sparkling water for a layered, complex flavor that tastes far more impressive than the effort involved. Because it's built entirely from fruit, sugar, water, and a splash of fizz, there's nothing here to second-guess — no hidden animal-derived additives, no mammal-sourced ingredients to track down on a label. That matters more than people realize, since even seemingly innocent packaged beverages can contain unexpected ingredients that make navigating social gatherings stressful. Making your own from scratch puts you fully in control without sacrificing a single drop of flavor. Garnished with a fresh orange slice and a sprig of mint, it's also genuinely beautiful in the glass — the kind of drink guests will reach for before they even ask what's in it.

Combine the sugar, water, and lemon zest in a small saucepan over medium heat, stirring until the sugar fully dissolves, about 2–3 minutes. Remove from the heat and let the syrup cool for 10 minutes, then strain through a fine-mesh strainer into a small bowl or jar, discarding the zest.
Combine the orange juice, lemon juice, lime juice, and 2 tablespoons of the cooled lemon simple syrup in a cocktail shaker or pitcher. Taste and add up to 1 additional tablespoon of syrup if you prefer a sweeter drink.
