Few drinks are as refreshing or as satisfying as this half-iced-tea, half-lemonade classic, and the good news is it's naturally free of the nightshade family without any substitutions required. Black tea is steeped just long enough to develop a rich, mellow depth, then blended with a bright homemade lemonade built from fresh-squeezed lemons and a quick simple syrup. The result is tart, lightly sweet, and endlessly drinkable — the kind of thing you'll want to keep a pitcher of in the fridge all week. Because everything is made from scratch here, you're not relying on any store-bought mixes or flavored syrups that might sneak in unexpected ingredients. Poured over ice with a sprig of fresh mint and a lemon slice, it looks as good as it tastes. This is the kind of recipe that proves eating and drinking around dietary restrictions doesn't have to feel like a compromise — sometimes the simplest approach is just the best one.

Bring 2 cups of water to a boil in a medium saucepan. Remove from heat, add the 4 tea bags, and steep for 5 minutes. Remove and discard the tea bags without squeezing them, then stir in the remaining 2 cups of cold water. Set aside to cool to room temperature, about 20 minutes.
While the tea cools, combine the sugar and 1/2 cup water in the saucepan over medium heat, stirring until the sugar is fully dissolved and the syrup is clear, about 2–3 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool for 5 minutes.
