Few drinks are as refreshing or as satisfying as a tall glass of half iced tea, half lemonade — and this homemade version absolutely delivers. The combination of bold black tea and bright, tart lemonade made with real lemon juice creates a balance that no bottled version can quite match. Many store-bought blends and flavored teas sneak in unexpected botanicals or spice extracts, so making it from scratch gives you complete control over every ingredient. The simple syrup comes together in just a few minutes on the stovetop, and the whole pitcher is ready once everything has cooled and been stirred together. Poured over ice with a lemon slice and a sprig of fresh mint, it looks as good as it tastes. It's the kind of drink that works equally well for a backyard cookout, a quiet afternoon on the porch, or a casual dinner spread.

Bring 2 cups of water to a boil in a medium saucepan. Remove from heat, add the 4 tea bags, and steep for 5 minutes. Remove and discard the tea bags without squeezing them, then stir in the remaining 2 cups of cold water. Set aside to cool to room temperature, about 20 minutes.
While the tea cools, combine the sugar and 1/2 cup water in the saucepan over medium heat, stirring until the sugar is fully dissolved and the syrup is clear, about 2–3 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool for 5 minutes.
