Few drinks are as refreshing as this half-and-half blend of bold black tea and bright, tangy lemonade — it's the kind of glass you want in your hand on a warm afternoon. What makes this version so clean is that every single component is made from scratch, so you know exactly what's going in. Store-bought lemonades and bottled iced teas are notorious for sneaking in additives and stabilizers that can be hard to track down on a label, but here there's nothing to decode. The lemonade gets its body from a quick homemade simple syrup and freshly squeezed lemon juice, while the tea is just steeped black tea bags and water — no fillers, no extras. Steeping the bags without squeezing them keeps the tea smooth and mellow rather than bitter, which balances beautifully against the tart lemonade. Serve it over a tall glass of ice with a lemon slice and a sprig of mint, and it looks just as good as it tastes.

Bring 2 cups of water to a boil in a medium saucepan. Remove from heat, add the 4 tea bags, and steep for 5 minutes. Remove and discard the tea bags without squeezing them, then stir in the remaining 2 cups of cold water. Set aside to cool to room temperature, about 20 minutes.
While the tea cools, combine the sugar and 1/2 cup water in the saucepan over medium heat, stirring until the sugar is fully dissolved and the syrup is clear, about 2–3 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool for 5 minutes.
