Few drinks are as refreshing or as satisfying as a tall glass of iced tea and lemonade swirled together over a mountain of ice. This homemade version is built entirely from scratch — real brewed black tea, a quick stovetop simple syrup, and freshly squeezed lemon juice — so you know exactly what's going into every sip. The balance of tart citrus and smooth, lightly tannic tea is genuinely hard to beat on a warm afternoon. Because every ingredient here is a whole, single-purpose pantry staple, there's no need to scan labels or worry about hidden additives or shared-facility warnings. The fresh lemon juice makes a noticeable difference over bottled, giving the lemonade a bright, clean flavor that really shines through the tea. Garnish with a lemon slice and a sprig of mint and it looks as good as it tastes — effortlessly impressive with almost zero fuss.

Bring 2 cups of water to a boil in a medium saucepan. Remove from heat, add the 4 tea bags, and steep for 5 minutes. Remove and discard the tea bags without squeezing them, then stir in the remaining 2 cups of cold water. Set aside to cool to room temperature, about 20 minutes.
While the tea cools, combine the sugar and 1/2 cup water in the saucepan over medium heat, stirring until the sugar is fully dissolved and the syrup is clear, about 2–3 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool for 5 minutes.
