Few drinks hit the way a perfectly balanced half-and-half does on a warm afternoon, and this homemade version is genuinely hard to beat. The problem with most bottled options is that they're loaded with artificial flavors, colors, and sweeteners that leave a strange aftertaste ā this one skips all of that entirely. The lemonade is built from scratch using fresh-squeezed juice and a quick homemade simple syrup, so every sip tastes clean and bright rather than like a chemistry experiment. Steeping real black tea bags and cooling them down before combining everything keeps the flavor honest and mellow, with none of that fake "tea flavor" you get from a powder or concentrate. The balance of tart citrus and smooth tea is easy to dial in to your own taste ā just add a splash more lemon juice or water until it's exactly right. Poured over ice with a few mint sprigs and lemon slices, it looks as good as it tastes and comes together with almost no effort.

Bring 2 cups of water to a boil in a medium saucepan. Remove from heat, add the 4 tea bags, and steep for 5 minutes. Remove and discard the tea bags without squeezing them, then stir in the remaining 2 cups of cold water. Set aside to cool to room temperature, about 20 minutes.
While the tea cools, combine the sugar and 1/2 cup water in the saucepan over medium heat, stirring until the sugar is fully dissolved and the syrup is clear, about 2ā3 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool for 5 minutes.
