Warm, fragrant, and made entirely from scratch, this homemade applesauce is the kind of simple recipe that earns a permanent spot in your rotation. A blend of tart Granny Smith and sweet Honeycrisp apples creates a beautifully balanced sauce with real depth of flavor — nothing like the bland stuff from a jar. A splash of lemon juice brightens everything up, while cinnamon and a pinch of salt round out the sweetness in the most satisfying way. The whole thing comes together in one saucepan, and you control the texture — go chunky with a few quick mashes or work it smooth for a silkier result. For anyone navigating grain sensitivities, this recipe is naturally free of any grain-based ingredients, so there's zero guesswork about what's in it. It's wonderful served warm alongside pork, spooned over oatmeal, or eaten straight from the pot with a spoon — no judgment here.

Combine the apple chunks, water, lemon juice, sugar, cinnamon, and salt in a large saucepan. Stir to coat the apples evenly.
Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce the heat to medium-low, cover, and cook for 18–22 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the apples are completely tender and collapse easily when pressed with a spoon.
