Few drinks hit the way a properly made cappuccino does — that balance of bold espresso, silky steamed milk, and thick, glossy foam is genuinely hard to beat. This one is built on just two ingredients: finely ground espresso coffee and cold whole milk, which means there is nothing hiding in here that doesn't belong. The technique is where the magic happens, from tamping the portafilter firmly to stretching the milk at just the right angle until it nearly doubles in volume with a smooth, velvety texture. Pre-warming the cup is a small step that makes a real difference, keeping the shot from cooling too fast and letting every layer settle the way it should. The goal is equal thirds — espresso, steamed milk, and dense spooned foam — and when you nail it, the result looks and tastes like something from a proper café counter. Since it's made entirely from coffee and dairy, there's zero guesswork about what's actually in your cup, which is a genuinely nice thing to be able to say.

Pre-warm a 6 oz ceramic cappuccino cup by filling it with hot water from the machine's steam wand or hot-water spout for 30 seconds, then discard the water.
