There is something deeply satisfying about pulling a golden, fragrant loaf out of a bread machine and knowing exactly what went into it. Store-bought bread can be a minefield when you're avoiding seeds — sesame, poppy, and flax have a way of sneaking into commercial loaves, sometimes even when you least expect it. This recipe keeps things beautifully simple: warm water, butter, sugar, salt, bread flour, and yeast are all you need to produce a classic white loaf with a soft, pillowy crumb and a deep golden crust. The bread machine does all the heavy lifting, mixing and proofing and baking on a standard cycle while you get on with your day. Letting the loaf cool on a wire rack before slicing is the one small act of patience that makes every difference — it keeps the crumb light and airy rather than gummy. Whether you're toasting it for breakfast, building a sandwich, or just tearing off a warm chunk with butter, this is the kind of dependable, everyday bread that earns a permanent spot in your weekly routine.

Add the ingredients to the bread machine pan in the order listed: water, butter, sugar, salt, bread flour, and yeast. Make a small well in the center of the flour and pour the yeast into it, keeping the yeast away from the salt.
Insert the pan into the bread machine, select the Basic or White Bread cycle, choose your preferred crust color (medium is recommended), and press Start. The full cycle will run approximately 3 hours.
