There is something deeply satisfying about pulling a golden, fragrant loaf from your bread machine, and this classic white bread delivers exactly that kind of simple, homemade joy. Store-bought sandwich bread is one of the sneakiest places high fructose corn syrup hides, tucked into ingredient lists right alongside preservatives and artificial flavors you never asked for. This recipe keeps things refreshingly clean — just water, butter, a touch of granulated sugar, salt, bread flour, and yeast, with nothing processed or suspicious in sight. The bread machine does all the heavy lifting, mixing and proofing and baking through a full cycle while you go about your day. What comes out is a tall, pillowy loaf with a deep golden crust that sounds hollow when tapped — exactly the sign of a perfectly baked bread. Letting it cool on a wire rack before slicing is the hardest part, but it's worth every minute for that soft, even crumb. Once you taste a slice toasted with a little butter, going back to the packaged stuff is simply not an option.

Add the ingredients to the bread machine pan in the order listed: water, butter, sugar, salt, bread flour, and yeast. Make a small well in the center of the flour and pour the yeast into it, keeping the yeast away from the salt.
Insert the pan into the bread machine, select the Basic or White Bread cycle, choose your preferred crust color (medium is recommended), and press Start. The full cycle will run approximately 3 hours.
