There's something deeply satisfying about letting a machine do the heavy lifting on a classic white loaf. Warm water, a touch of sugar, and active dry yeast work together to build a soft, well-risen crumb, while bread flour gives the finished loaf real structure and chew. The Basic cycle handles the mixing, kneading, and rising in one long stretch, so all you're really doing is checking for that deep golden crust and the telltale hollow sound before turning it out to cool. Slice it once it's had a full 30 minutes to set, and you've got a fresh, pillowy loaf perfect for sandwiches, toast, or just butter-free snacking straight off the rack. It's a low-effort way to keep fresh homemade bread in a dairy free kitchen without babysitting a stand mixer or oven the whole time.

Add the ingredients to the bread machine pan in the order listed: water, butter, sugar, salt, bread flour, and yeast. Make a small well in the center of the flour and pour the yeast into it, keeping the yeast away from the salt.
Insert the pan into the bread machine, select the Basic or White Bread cycle, choose your preferred crust color (medium is recommended), and press Start. The full cycle will run approximately 3 hours.
