There is something deeply satisfying about pulling a golden, fragrant loaf out of a bread machine and knowing exactly what went into it. This classic white bread comes together with just six pantry staples — warm water, butter, sugar, salt, bread flour, and yeast — making it one of the most straightforward bakes you can tackle at home. Store-bought sandwich loaves often contain a surprising number of additives and mystery ingredients, so baking your own puts you fully in control of what lands on your table. The bread machine does all the heavy lifting, mixing and proofing and baking while you go about your day. Once that cycle finishes, you're rewarded with a deep golden crust that sounds hollow when tapped and a soft, pillowy crumb that slices beautifully after a short rest on the wire rack. It's the kind of everyday loaf that makes even a simple sandwich feel like a proper meal.

Add the ingredients to the bread machine pan in the order listed: water, butter, sugar, salt, bread flour, and yeast. Make a small well in the center of the flour and pour the yeast into it, keeping the yeast away from the salt.
Insert the pan into the bread machine, select the Basic or White Bread cycle, choose your preferred crust color (medium is recommended), and press Start. The full cycle will run approximately 3 hours.
